Philips Fixbles will allow you to change parts to replace your electric razors and trimmers
Philips launches a new program called Fixbles, where it will provide plans so that customers can be able to replace printing for the company’s personal care products. The video introducing the initiative presents it as a simpler and easier way to extend the life of the functional elements rather than throw them away, as a part or attachment is broken. Philips partnered with Prusa Research and Lepub for this endeavor, and Printables hosts plansS
There are some warnings and restrictions on this concept. The quality of the replacement part will depend on the materials used to create it, not every customer has a 3D printer at home. (Although some public library systems, universities and local manufacturer’s local communities may have equipment that can be used or rented on site.)
It is still a project in its early stages. Initially, Fixbles started in the Czech Republic. To For the Fixbles program (which is Czech), Philips explains that it starts from home for Prusa Research and it reaches the existing 3D printing manufacturer’s community for this project. Another sign that the initiative is still in the early stages is that there is only one plan for part: attachment to a comb to the OneBlade trimmer. But on Google Translate, two more plans are referred to as “We work on it” and there are three different icons without descriptions that indicate additional plans. The Fixbles website also has an option for customers to send a request for parts that want to be able to 3D printing.
So, while Fixbles is a long way since the creation of a true indentation in waste from personal hygiene products, it is exciting to see a basic brand, making serious efforts to explore the potential of 3D printing for better sustainability.
