On Tuesday, January 21, Instagram user @livebitez took to the platform to share an apparent live stream personnel recorded from the crowd at the inaugural ball. The video shows Nelly taking the stage as the narrator’s voice appears to share the rapper’s life story with the crowd.

Additionally, the story explained that Nellie was born on a military base in Austin, Texas and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. Additionally, the story states that various members of Nellie’s family served in the armed forces.

“Only in America can you come from the streets of St. Louis to the White House,” said the story before the start of Nelly’s speech.

Social media is facing a backlash

Social media users seem to have lashed out at Nelly for doubling down on her decision to perform at Trump’s inaugural ball in Shade Room Comments Section.

Ahead of his speech at Donald Trump’s inaugural ball, he elaborated on his decision

Before going on stage, Nelly talked about her decision again during a conversation with ABC News. The rapper reiterated that he considers it an “honor” to perform in front of the president and apparently “never thought” it was possible.

“It’s not political for me. For me, the political part is over. He won and I was taught growing up to respect the office, so Nellie is here,” he said.

In addition, Nelly explained why he didn’t let go of the initial criticism he received for his choice.
