Pebble Watch returns: It may be exactly what the Smartwatch landscape needs
Return until 2014 and on my wrist almost always wear a lovely Black and white shielded digital clock This seems very similar to a casio or little boy. It shows me time notifications and wrists, which is more than enough. These were my stones for years and I miss them. Pebble is back nowIn 2025, this is an incredible turn of events after the startup company of Kickstarter, created by Eric Migikovsky, was eaten in Technology Turduck, acquired by Fitbitfollowed by Fitbit Acquired by GoogleS
The identity of the pebble disappeared. But Google has released Pebble OS Free for GitHubAnd the original founder of Pebble has announced that he is returning Smartwatch. The news exploded from the blue, but the moment I heard the news, I thought that the gum I like was coming back in style. From those old pebble days, nothing has ever felt like a pebble again.
Migikovsky, founder of Pebble, is launching a new company focused on gadgets like The Pebble. It starts with a A single new pebble pattern This will start the old axis and will be hacking for new applications and ideas. “I just love gadgets,” Migikovsky told me. “I’ll just make gadgets because I want them.” Unlike Pebble’s mission 10 years ago, Migikovsky is pleased to make gadgets for small groups of stakeholders, including himself. This is a return to the indie spirit for a pebble, which is what was first.
Migikovsky said he contacted Google for Pebbleos with an open source a year ago and Google agreed. The process of making a new Pebble watch was much faster. The components are plentiful and the design process has gathered quickly, he said.
Pebble may be the first of other devices in a similar spirit, but for now, the goal is to return 2025. We carry a friend of mine. I miss a pebble and it’s probably a great time to return it.
Unfortunately, the pebble circle does not return, at least as far as we know.
It’s just nice
In the days of pebbles, most people I knew wore old -fashioned watches, and the intelligent features of Pebble felt like the future. Now most people seem to wear smart watches and see posts about people who want to wear everyday watches again.
The return of a pebble would not be related to the creation of the future in everyday life; It would be to take something too smart and make it less persistent, lower. I remind myself of the recent social media obsession over Boox PalmaA tablet with ink, resembling a phone that people seem to love because it was not so needy, so intrusive or so deeply smart. It’s like my Kindle, which acts like my vacation from other screens, partially offline experience. Pebble hours can feel the same.
The new pebbles will not have touch screens, just buttons like the old ones. They will be square, plastic black and white pebbles, not round, steel or colored cut (as far as we know before). They will be clear. Sounds somehow nice.
We are in a period where AI flows into everything, fitting into headphones, clocks and glasses. It is very opposite to where we were when the Pebble clock first started, hinting at the things ahead. Now his classic style can help to eliminate some distractions in favor of other things … as a longer battery life.
A week between fees?
Migikovsky tells me that the new pebble will have battery life during the week and will have this electronic paper display that made the old models so fun. The displays are always standard for smart watches, but battery life is certainly not the case during the week.
While Garmin Clocks and other wearable like fitbits and Withings scanwatch Have a longer battery life, many of these watches are heading for fitness/health focus. Pebble’s charms were more for the watchful faces of the clock, although the new pebble would have a step, as the last pebbles did.
I succumbed to daily charging for smart watches or on the best day on the best day. I miss the old times when I could go longer between the accusations.
This time there will be only one Pebble design, but I liked the steel version.
A fun idea while the wearer is reinvented
A pebble makes me think of another favorite little gadget over the past few years, Panic PlaydateS The quirky tiny Panic game can manage any games as well as self -made projects. Migikovsky is excited by the hacker’s capabilities of a pebble, pointing out that even encoding can now be accelerated.
There will be no new types of sensors on the new pebble. Expect the low -energy Bluetooth to be the main way of interacting with other devices. Migikovsky does not review Pebble’s ideas for smart straps.
Migicovsky sees three steps ahead: drawing up new hardware, updating the bits of the software (including a new Bluetooth driver) and returning a developer community to dream of new applications and watch faces. The new pebble will release old pebble applications and watch faces, but will ideas start to sprout?
This may be the perfect time to play around with a fun, hackecker smart watch. Existing smart watches have become a set of predictable features: mobile payments, phone calls and fitness tracking. Over the next few years, clocks can be changed in satellites injected with AI, extensions equipped with camera camera cameras or satellites with activated gestures of intelligent glasses. Pebble will have no mobile payments, make phone calls or track your marathons – but this can be a really fun alternative to the smartwatches we already have. I want to see what it is like to wear it again.
