Panama rejects Trump’s threats to take back control of the Canal

Panamanian President Jose Raúl Mulino has rejected US President-elect Donald Trump’s threats to return control of the Panama Canal, calling them groundless and affirming Panama’s sovereignty over the waterway. Trump, who has criticized Panama’s leadership and expressed concerns about China’s influence, has warned that the United States could demand the return of the canal if operations are not “safe and secure.”
