Palworld programmer has removed the game features because of Nintendo Legal Pressure
When debuting as a game for early access in 2024, the popular action/collection of Palworld video game was an immediate hit, but no forensic expert was needed to predict that his resemblance to Pokemon would invite court action. It happened about eight months later When Nintendo and Pokemon Company filed a claim, claiming a patent breach.
Now gamers are seeing some of the effects of this legal threat. PocketPair, the studio behind the unofficial parody, some features in the game, such as the use of Pal spheres (similar to Pokemon balls) and gliding with friends, were packed by the gameplay with updates in November and this month.
In a blog post Entitled “In terms of the case, changes to Palworld and Future”, PocketPair said the changes “are really the result of current litigation.”
The post continues to say, “Everyone here at PocketPair was disappointed that this correction should be made and we fully understand that many players were experiencing the same powerless. Unfortunately, as the alternative would lead to even more degradation of the gameplay’s experience for players, it was definitely necessary.”
Much of the debate over the existence of Palworld and why it faces legal challenges related to whether the game itself can be legally protected if it is considered a parody. Therefore, the lawsuit is based on a patent violation, focusing on the mechanics of the game, not on copyright infringement.
Even with pending legal action, the expansion of the game did not slow down. Available on PlayStation 5, Xbox consoles and computer and There is still a mobile versionS
