Onimusha is back!
Capcom announced Onimusha: The Way of the Swordthe first new one Onimusha game from the original 2001 PS2 version remastered in 2019. Revealed at The Game Awards 2024, it reveals a modern take on the classic dark action game, minus the fixed perspectives as before.
The trailer for the single-player action game Wordplay shows an unnamed Samanosuke-like character as he faces off against samurai zombies in a bloody battle, collecting gold orbs like before. "A lone samurai steps forward – his blade sharpened, his soul new. Capcom’s Onimusha series reawakens with Onimusha: Way of the Sword, a brand new title coming in 2026." reads the official description.
Onimusha fans desperately hoping for a new game will be excited, but they’ll have to wait a little longer because The way of the sword not due until 2026 – a full quarter of a century after the original. It will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Check out the new trailer (age restricted) right here.
