Notre Dame defeated Indiana in the College Football Playoff to set up a Sugar Bowl history with Georgia

The Fighting Irish were the first team to win at home College Football Playoff game with a 27-17 victory over Indiana in the first round of the new 12-team playoffs.
The big hit came early with Jeremiah Love running 98 yards for a touchdown. On Notre Dame’s next drive, Riley Leonard hit Jayden Thomas to make it 14-0, and that was all Indiana could muster, immediately matching the Fighting Irish.

Indiana’s offense continued to come out of the locker room, hitting first downs in both the third quarter and the final quarter.
Leonard ran for a score to make it 27-3 Indiana, but the Hoosiers scored two more touchdowns. On their second play, with 25 seconds left, they went for two to make it a one-possession game, but it failed, other than to ice the Irish ball game.

Hoosiers scored 14 points in the fourth quarter, but it was too little.
Leonard completed 23 of 32 passes for 201 yards – Jordan Faison led the Irish with seven receptions for 89 yards.
The other three games of the first round will be played on Saturday.

Notre Dame will now face Georgia in the Sugar Bowl on New Year’s Day in New Orleans.
