NHTSA launches investigation into Tesla’s remote parking features
The National Administration for Road Safety and Traffic Safety is the remote parking feature in some Tesla vehicles. The tools in question are Smart Summon, and unfortunately the acronym Actual Smart Summon, which uses in-car cameras to automatically control the parking process.
The agency’s Office of Defect Investigation has received 12 complaints about alleged crashes from the Smart Summon feature and one complaint about actual use of Smart Summon that allegedly caused the crash. He also reviewed three media reports of seemingly similar collisions involving an Actual Smart Summon where the driver did not have time to react to avoid a crash. Remote parking is available in approximately 2.6 million vehicles, including 2016-2025 Model S, 2016 Model X, 2018-2025 Model Xs, 2019-2025 Model 3s and 2019-2025 Model Ys.
Tesla announced its for deliveries at the beginning of the month. The company reported about 1.78 million vehicle deliveries in 2024, compared to 1.81 million in 2023.
