M. Night Shyamalan is either one of the worst directors to ever step behind the camera or a creative genius, depending on who you ask and which movie it’s about, but no one can argue with the success of his first film The sixth sense. For now, he is taking part in the role of one daughter, Saleka Nochi Traphis youngest daughter Ishana Knight has gone behind the camera for her first feature film, Observerswhich recently debuted on Netflix. In keeping with family tradition, the film has divided the horror community, with opinions almost entirely divided, but even detractors admit that Ishana possesses her father’s talent.

The captive cast

Observers

Horror movie features Dakota Fanning as Mina, an American woman traveling through Belfast whose car breaks down in a creepy forest where an equally creepy woman tells her to come with her if she wants to live. Woman Madeline (played by Olwen Fuer, who recently appeared in Tarot), leads Mina to a bunker connected to the Chicken Coop, a structure with a one-way window that allows strange creatures called Watchers to watch over them every night. Observers is a potential metaphor for streaming on Netflix or a reality TV show, but the strange creatures that cannot be caught in the sunlight are clearly dangerous and have bad intentions towards the trapped actors.

People who, in addition to Mina and Madeline, include Georgina Campbell (known for Barbarian) as Ciara and Irish actor Oliver Finnegan as Daniel roam around during the day, but always return to the safety of the bunker and the Chicken Coop each evening to perform before the Watcher. With a limited cast and locations that range from the Chicken Coop to the woods and other angles in the woods, it may seem like Observers was a low-budget Netflix original, although it was actually entirely self-financed M. Night Shyamalan. This very fact means that no matter how creepy or terrifying the plot is, and there are a few good jump scares, some people have made up their minds about the movie long before it hits theaters.

The problem of nepotism cannot be avoided

Dakota Fanning in Observers

Nepotism has recently become a major issue in Hollywood, although it has existed in all industries since time immemorial, but very few directors can get their first film fully financed by their father to the tune of $30 million. That’s what it means Observers faced an uphill battle for attention on its own merits, and while it wasn’t a huge theatrical hit, it’s been in Netflix’s top ten since it debuted on the world’s biggest streaming platform.

Long before he became successful Netflix, Observers there was a book by A. M. Shine, and there have been some significant changes in the transition from page to screen. First, the book never describes what the Watchers look like, while the movie eventually shows them in all their terrifying glory, and ironically, it’s the book that spawns the sequel, not the movie. There are other changes, but in true Shyamalan style there is a twist in the story.

Observers is currently available on Netflix, and you can watch M’s other daughter perform. Knight Trap on Max. It cannot be denied that nepotism had a hand in both projects, but it is also true that there are far worse horrors out there today, such as the aforementioned Tarotand indeed, both films are worth your time to watch and judge for yourself.
