The rules of time travel can be a bit quirky depending on the writer Back to the future is considered a genre benchmark, but as a general rule, anyone who goes back in time shouldn’t try to change too much. The butterfly effect, which The SimpsonsThe Treehouse of Horrors, shown at its best thanks to a malfunctioning toaster, says that the slightest change can drastically change the future. Netflix’s latest surprise Reduction of timebenefits greatly from this, throwing a young girl 21 years into the past to prevent her sister from being killed, and as a result alters the timeline forever.

Reduction of time

The worst part Reduction of time is right there in the short synopsis, with the understanding that going back 21 years means most of the action takes place in 2003, which explains why your back hurts right now. Foreign banks star madison bailey shows she excels in teen drama acting this other Netflix hit, but here she plays Lucy, a young girl who takes pleasure in stopping Lighty Slasher from killing her older sister, Summer. 2003’s Murderer’s Lute left the city forever scarred, the current one shows a rundown downtown and everyone feeling malaise and emotionally detached from life, clearly following the director’s “act depressed by the mere act of breathing.”

She soon returns to 2003, thanks to a time machine in the barn, which is kind of explained later, and runs into her still-living sister (another Netflix star, Ginny and Georgia Antonia Gentry) and her friends Quinn (as Griffin Gluck, best known for another Netflix series, Lock and Key)and Amy (Megan Best, not a Netflix star, but she was a saved woman Bob Odenkirk in the bus st No one). Through a series of events, Lucy attempts to keep Summer alive and stop the Lightly Slasher, but accidentally causes various deaths in the process, breaking one of the golden rules of time travel.

Short roller coaster from the movie

Remember shopping malls? Reduction of time does.

Reduction of time can be compared with DarkGerman a time travel science fiction seriesas both end up exploring similar concepts of time travel and prove that sometimes breaking the general rules of the genre can work out for the best. The difference between them is this Dark filled with amazing performances, multi-dimensional characters and a twisty plot, while Reduction of time is a slasher. It’s not a deal breaker because it’s great and everyone got the job done during filming, but know what you’re getting yourself into.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the campy acting and dumb plot twists shortening the time and i would say if you liked the time loop Happy Death Dayyou will surely enjoy a blast to the past in this movie. The ending raises a lot of questions for time travel enthusiasts to debate and argue about for a long time, which is honestly more than I expected going into the movie. No great kills for slasher fans, but at least you never find out the identity of the Sweetly Slasher until the big reveal, or at least I didn’t, although I had my theories.

Reduction of time it’s a short slasher-style roller coaster that’s only 92 minutes long, which I also appreciated about the movie because it didn’t drag on or try to do too much. This is the type of movie that would have gone straight into the DVD bin at Best Buy in 2003, but in 2024, it’s the type of cheap content that streamers push out almost daily. The time travel slasher concept isn’t new, but at least it’s fun and never takes itself too seriously.

Reduction of time now streaming on Netflix.
