NASA closes parts of voyager 1 and 2 to extend your life

Nearly 50 years after being launched for the first time, Voyager 1 and 2 still travel in the interstellar space – although they have been facing some failures over the years. NASA has now announced that the Space Ship “Gemini Voyager” is loss of some of their characteristics in an attempt to extend their life against the background of decreasing power supply.

On February 25, NASA’s JPL JPL JSC (JPL) Laboratory excluded Voyager 1 Cosmic Ray Subsystem Experiment and on March 25, it will close the low -energy Voyager 2 loaded particulate instrument.

"Voyagers are in deep space rock stars from the launch and we want to keep it in this way as possible as possible," Susan Dodd, the Voyager project manager at JPL, said. "But electrical power decreases. If we do not exclude a tool for every voyager now, they would probably have only a few months of power before we had to announce the end of the mission."

Each probe will continue to manage three scientific instruments, but has seven other tools that they have excluded over time. Last October alone, NASA closed the plasma scientific instrument of Voyager 2. However, both spacecraft have experienced recent problems. Last June Voyager 1 finally begins to work properly by following Seven months of technical problemsincluding illegible data. There was a similar problem two years beforeS In 2023, Voyager 2 It is darkened for two weeks after needing technical help three years earlier.

NASA still puts a lot of value in Voyager’s probes. "Every minute of every day voyagers explore a region where he had not previously walked a spacecraft," Linda Spilker said, a Voyager project scientist at JPL. "It also means that every day can be our last. But that day can bring another interstellar revelation. So, we take out all the stops, doing our best to make sure that Voyagers 1 and 2 continue their traces for maximum time." Maybe at least until they hit 50 years in 2027?

NASA’s slightly more cynical perception “takes out all stops” to continue them is that they would certainly like the probes to be functional for their 50th anniversary in 2027 -which feels like a high order, despite the best efforts of the agency.
