Meta is working on a fix for a software update that blocks Quest headsets
Meta is reportedly working on a software update issue that is bricking some Quest 2, Quest 3 and Quest 3S headsets, the company announced. The company initially upset customers by not only rolling out the wrong update but then telling affected buyers that they will not address the issue as the headphones are out of warranty, ie. The Verge reported.
Now Meta seems to be handling the issue well, saying it’s working on a fix “for all users” and said customer support has “new guidelines on how to support users.” Some buyers said Reddit that they have received email confirmation that the company will provide out-of-warranty service for their fault.
“We discovered a software update issue that caused some Quest 2/3/3S headsets to become unresponsive and unable to boot properly,” Meta wrote in its help center. “We are actively working to resolve the issue for all users, but in most cases you can now use your device as normal. If you have a device that is still unresponsive, we are here to help. If you have a 3S quest, click the button below for next steps Quest 2 or 3 users, please contact us for support.”
The issue dates back to December 6, when Meta said software updates were affecting Quest 3S devices at the time. The update includes features like a virtual desktop, faster hand tracking, easier pairing with Windows 11 PCs, and more.
