Meghan Markle is mourning the death of her dog nearly 10 years after adopting the beagle from a rescue in Canada.

“I’ve cried too many tears to count — the kind of tears that make you step into the shower with the absurd hope that running water on your face will somehow make you not feel them or pretend they’re not there,” Markle. , 43, wrote through Instagram on Tuesday, January 7. “But they are there. And that’s okay, too.”

Markle recalled the moment in 2015 when she met her dog, whom she named Guy. He was in the Kentucky Homicide Asylum and was given a few days to live.

“I captured him… and fell in love,” she wrote. “They called him ‘little guy’ because he was so small and frail, so I called him ‘Guy’. And he was the best boyfriend any girl could ask for.”

As Markle shared numerous photos of Guy in her announcement, she confirmed that her dog will be appearing in her upcoming Netflix show, titled Love, Megan.

According to Netflix’s official press release, the show is “reimagining the genre of lifestyle programming” with Markle at the forefront, “mixing hands-on instruction with candid conversation with friends.” It also offers a glimpse into her life in California.

“As many of you will now see Guy in this new series, I hope you will understand why I am so devastated by his loss,” Markle explained. “I think you can fall in love a little too.”

In her personal tribute to Guy, Markle also took time to talk about the “terrible accident” her dog suffered before she moved to the UK. For several months, Guy had to undergo operations and treatment away from home.

“The doctors said he would never walk again, but Dr. Noel Fitzpatrick said he could do it,” she wrote. “X and I drove late at night, after hours, to see Guy, who had been convalescing in Surrey for several months. I will always be grateful to Noel and his team, the team at Queen West Animal Hospital in TO, our current vets and my friends and community: thank you for loving him.”

In a recent message to her followers, Markle asked pet lovers to consider adoption instead of shopping the next time they’re looking for a furry friend. She also continued to express gratitude for all the happy memories she shared with Guy.

“Thank you for so many years of unconditional love my sweet boyfriend,” she wrote. “You have filled my life in ways you will never know ❤️‍🩹#adoptdontshop.”
