Matthew Gaudreau’s wife Madeline gave birth to their first child

Matthew Gaudreauwife Madeleine Gaudreaugave birth to the couple’s first child after the tragic death of her husband in August.
“Trip Matthew 🤍🦋,” Madeline wrote via Instagram on Sunday, December 29, welcoming a new baby. “Mom and Dad’s World.” Her message included a picture of Madeline holding the newborn’s tiny hand, along with a small sign that read: “He’s here.” She also tagged Matthew in the post.
Matthew and his brother, an NHL star Johnny Gaudreauwere hit and killed by a suspected drunken driver while cycling near their hometown in New Jersey in August. Matthew was 29 and Johnny was 31.
Shortly after news of the brothers’ deaths broke, an online registry confirmed that Madeline was is expecting her and Matthew’s first childwhich is due to take place on December 31. A A GoFundMe has been launched after the accident to raise money to support Madeline and their son Tripp.
In the days following the tragedy, Madeline shared many tributes to her late husband, whom she married in July 2021.
“I have no words. I just miss you. I don’t know my life without you. I’ve never felt pain like this,” she wrote on Instagram in August. “I am so happy that you chose me as your wife (and) loved me. You are the best that is in me.”
She continued, “I know you are looking down with as much pain as I am looking up. I will continue for you and our son. I love you so much Matthew.’
In a follow-up Instagram Story post, Madeline wrote that Matthew was the “proudest” father-to-be and “couldn’t wait to be a dad” adding: “He never missed a meeting. Can’t wait to see you live on through our son.”
Madeline described her relationship with Matthew as “the best 14 years of my life” in a September Instagram post, noting: “Can’t wait to see you again. I miss you very much.”
Later that month, Madeline became emotional while delivering the eulogy at the memorial service for Matthew.
“The last week has felt like I’m trapped in a nightmare that I can’t wake up from,” she said. “I feel numb, angry, sad and happy all at the same time. Sometimes the thought of this new reality is exhausting, but most of all I just miss Matt.”
Through tears, Madeline said she knew “Matt will be around his son for the rest of his life.”
“I’m so thankful to God for giving us a baby, little Matty, to run for life, to carry on his legacy,” she shared. “Tripp will know how much his father loved him, and I promise to do all the things we talked about with him.”
Madeline concluded her speech with a call to avoid drunk driving. “Call for a ride. Please do not subject another family to this torture,” she said.
Johnny’s wife Meredith Gaudreauwas also pregnant at the time of the accident. As she prepares to welcome their third child, Madeline vows to support her daughter-in-law.
“We will forever share this extreme grief and terrible bond,” Madeline wrote via Instagram in September. “However, guys could not choose stronger women as wives and mothers of their children. We’ll carry each other through every season, like guys would do for each other. We were blessed with children. Thanks to them, we will always have a piece of their land with us forever.”
