Coincidentally, Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” could help the Grammy-winning artist reclaim the elusive title she’s held for nearly three decades.
As it stands, country star Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” shares the title of Billboard’s longest-running No. 1 track with Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road,” with both songs dominating the Hot 100 for 19 consecutive weeks in 2024 and 2019 respectively.
Prior to that, the men’s song “One Sweet Day” by Carey and Boyz II held the record with their 16-week streak and held the title for 23 years.
If Carey comes out on top twice more in the coming weeks – which she has a good chance of – she will ultimately reclaim the award. She would need one more to win.

Carey recently celebrated the song’s 30th anniversary

Although she may consider herself “forever 16”, Carey has opened up about the longevity of her Christmas hit with New York Times in November – in the same month, the 30th anniversary remastering of her album “Merry Christmas” was released.
“It’s really nice,” the singer said of how people have appreciated the song, “and I’m just thankful and grateful for it and for all the people who come up and say, ‘I like your music’ or ‘I’m listening’ to your Christmas music.” in July” – it started to become a thing. I’ve always wanted to do this in my life, and so now we can do it.”
As the singer noted in her best-selling memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, her love of holiday cheer — which eventually led to her co-writing the tune with co-star Walter Afanasyev — was born out of not-so-positive memories of holidays with her family.
“I set about creating my own little magical, merry world of Christmas,” she wrote. “I focused on everything my mother was trying her best to create; all I need is glitter and a full church choir to back me up.’
