Man Utd question several players over line-up leaks
Manchester United’s hierarchy have questioned at least two of their own players over the numerous leaks revealing early team news, according to a report.
Ruben Amorim’s team had their starting eleven Sunday’s Manchester derby was leaked on match day at the Etihad. The news given by Manchester Evening News journalist Samuel Luckhurst proved him right and it wasn’t the first time unitedThe line-up has been unveiled well before kick-off.
This trend has persisted under numerous managerial regimes, pointing towards a member of the playing staff.
A report of The Times claims United staff have asked two players whether they, or any of their associates, were responsible for leaks to the press. Both people quashed the suggestion of any involvement.
Despite this line of questioning, United insists no formal investigation has been launched.
Pep Guardiola managed to make the jump to Amorim’s eleven, but he still saw his Manchester City conspire lose 2-1 in the dying embers of a largely drab derby. Still on the back of a crucial win after back-to-back defeats, the United manager wondered about the talking member of his squad.
“I know that story,” Amorim told reporters after the game. “I don’t know, I think it’s impossible to fix nowadays because you have a lot of people in the club, the players talk to the agents.
“I don’t know, you can talk to friends so it’s hard to know. It’s not good, but let’s go to the next one and see if they find the next starting eleven.”
The biggest news from Amorim’s leaked lineup concerned the players who weren’t involved. Both Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho were fell surprisingly of the team as a whole. United’s new manager hinted with a downgrade when he explained the duo’s absence, but insisted both would be considered for selection again.
The ‘leaker’ among United’s ranks will be worried about a trip to Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup Thursday’s quarterfinals.
