Planning a holiday beauty look can be a daunting task. There are tons of Instagram photos, the need to make sure your makeup stays on for endless family parties, and maybe even the need to impress your overconfident relatives (in the words of a viral TikTok video, “we listen and we don’t judge…”). But the good news is that improving your complexion doesn’t have to be a stressful process. especially if you have red carpet worthy tips and tricks.
If you’re feeling festive and want to turn on the sparkles, now’s the time to do it – but Tasha Reika Brown tells us that there is an art to wearing glitter. Make-up artist Chanel — what a grave, including on the leaders Gabrielle Union, Ayo Edebiri and Alicia Keys — says that it is important to focus only on “one or two features (of the face)” so as not to overdo it. This “allows the glittery aspects of the makeup to (stand out),” she explains further. “(Look for) products with a lot of shine, a shiny texture that sparkles, and balms that bring light.”
Below are Brown’s top picks to help you say goodbye to 2024 and usher in the new year with plenty of glitz and glamour. Enjoy!
Push to the next level
Brown shares two ways to take red lips up a notch. You can either “(choose) a formula where the gloss is intertwined with the pigment” or you can apply a “sheer or dazzling lip gloss” over the red lipstick.

Even if your red lipstick contains glitter, you can still increase the shine or “double the color” by choosing a “sparkly lip gloss in the same shade.” (Brown likes Sephora Collection About That Shine Sheer Shine Lipstick in Radiant Red.)

The Chanel Rouge Allure L’Extra in Rouge Royal it is her “current choice”. The expert suggests pairing it with “satin skin and clear eyes.”

Brown recommends choosing a “thick” formula like Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb Heat Universal Lip Luminizer + Glass Slipper Plumper. “A thin gloss formula will glide on too much and can end up ‘blending’ with your lip color, leading to bleeding at the edge of your lips.”
Glowing skin
“I like to add (glitter) to the high points of the face to really highlight the features,” says Brown. These areas include “the top of the cheekbones, the bridge of the nose, the arch of the lips and the center of the chin.”

“To keep the bright sparkle, make sure you choose subtle textures with fine glitter particles,” brownware. Rare Beauty’s Positive Light Liquid Illuminator in Enlighten is a great example of this, and if you’re using your finger to apply the product, Brown advises to “use the pad of your ring finger for control.”

Another of Brown’s favorites? The Nudestix Nudies Glow Highlighter Stick in Bubbly Bebe. You’ll love the blendable texture and vibrant look it achieves.

If you don’t like highlighter, use a “clear balm” for example Jillian Dempsey Lid Tint in Dew also provide a chic and bright finish.

When applying radiance enhancers, particularly powders, e.g Chanel Diamond Dust Oversize Illuminating Powder — The expert advises using a brush that’s “thinner than a regular blush brush” to ensure precise application.
Shiny lids
The sparkling champagne shade is one of Brown’s favorite shades for the holiday season. “It goes perfectly with a sharp pout,” she emphasizes. Brown offers two tricks that will come in handy whether you’re applying liquid or powder eyeshadow. For a seamless application, “use your fingers or a dense brush to gently apply the product to your lids.”

Liquid formulas like Chanel’s Ombre Première Lacquer on the shelf have their advantages because they help reduce the chance of pigment displacement.

She is a fan Singles of Urban Decay’s 24/7 Moondust Glitter Eyeshadow in Space Cowboy. Brown notes that “press, don’t swipe (the product) — to minimize any effects.”
