Magdeburg: German Christmas market suspect arrested by judge
During a visit to the market on Saturday, Scholz described the attack as a “terrible tragedy” because “so many people were injured and killed with such brutality” in what should have been “joy”.
He told reporters that there was serious concern for the seriously injured and that “all resources” would be devoted to investigating the suspect behind the attack.
Earlier, Reiner Haseloff, the prime minister of the state of Saxony-Anhalt, said that a preliminary investigation showed that the alleged attacker acted alone.
Prosecutor Horst Walter Nopens said on Saturday that the investigation was continuing, but that the potential motives for the attack could be “dissatisfaction with the treatment of Saudi Arabian refugees in Germany”.
