After first meeting in 1985, Presley and Keough exchanged vows in October 1988. The couple had a daughter Riley Keough and a son Benjamin Keough in 1989 and 1992. (Benjamin died by suicide aged 27 in July 2020)
Two years later, in 1994, Danny and the only daughter with Priscilla Presley and Elvis Presley called it an exit. Despite their split, the couple remained close over the years.

Lisa Marie remembers that she did not know about her first pregnancy for four months. She went to hospital after experiencing “terrible pains”. According to Lisa Marie, the doctors at first thought it was her appendix. “They rushed me into surgery,” she wrote. “When I came to, they told me I had an ectopic pregnancy.”
During her second pregnancy, Lisa Marie and Danny “didn’t know what to do,” so she had an abortion. She wrote: “It was the stupidest thing I’ve ever done in my entire life. I was devastated. I did and we both cried. We were both destroyed and shortly after that we split up and went our separate ways. I couldn’t live with myself.”
Eventually the couple reconciled. “I planned and I planned and planned,” Lisa Marie wrote, noting that she knew “exactly” when she ovulated and went to visit Danny. “I remember going back to the ship hoping I was going to make it.”
Lisa Marie admitted that she “didn’t really want to” catch Danny, while Riley wrote in her part of the book that her mom “absolutely wanted to catch my dad.” (Riley finished From here to the Great Unknown following Lisa Marie death at age 54 in January 2023)
Both Lisa Marie and Riley claimed that Priscilla made “several attempts” to stop Danny from being a part of their lives. “It felt like Danny and I against everybody,” Lisa Marie recalled.
