Liam Payne’s ex Sophia Smith got engaged 2 months after his death
Liam Payneex girlfriend Sophia Smith received the main Christmas present: a wedding ring.
Smith pointed out via Instagram that her boyfriend James Bridgewoodproposed to her for Christmas. “Yes a million times ❤️💍 12/25/24,” she captioned the proposal video on Instagram from Friday, December 27, which appeared to have taken place at their home with their daughter Angelina by her side.
The family of three were dressed in pajamas for the special moment and embraced for a group hug after Bridgewood put a ring on Smith’s finger. In addition to the rose petals on the floor, Bridgewood placed a bottle of champagne and two proposal glasses next to them.
It is not known when the couple started dating, although Smith shared it first Picture on Instagram with Bridgewood in June 2022. She announced her pregnancy that December, tagging her then-boyfriend on Instagram photo her baby bump. Angelina was born in April 2023. At the time, Payne said they had “talked about marriage,” but she wanted her to stick to her goals and not become “one of those stay-at-home girlfriends who doesn’t really do much.”
Liam Payne had a series of ups and downs throughout his career in the spotlight before his tragic death at 31. Payne previously confirmed that the song “Illusion” from One Direction’s 2014 album, fourwas written about Smith. A year later, however, he and Smith called it quits. Payne moved on with a fellow singer Cheryl Colewho is he from 2016 to 2018.
Smith congratulated her ex when she and Cole, 41, welcomed their son Beer in March 2017. “I texted him to congratulate him,” she said The sun in April 2017. “We are doing well. I’m happy for him.”
Payne died at the age of 31 Oct. 16 after falling while intoxicated from a third-floor hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Smith has yet to publicly comment on his death, which is is currently under investigation.
Payne met on-exclusion girlfriend Kate Cassidy at the time of his death. Earlier this month, Cassidy, 25, debuted a new angel wings tattoos on her fingers, which she seemingly received as a tribute to the late pop star.
