LG’s Swiss Army Knife projector is hiding in plain sight

The companies were smashing together multiple gadgets in one product for a long time and there are many examples at CES 2025. But LG’s latest projector, PF600Uwhich is a combination of a projector, a lamp and a Bluetooth speaker, may be one of the few compelling examples of the genre. If nothing else, the unit can allow you to hide your A/V equipment in plain sight in a floor lamp when not in use. LG intends it to be tucked away in a living space, for example at the end of a sofa or behind an end table.

PF600U isn’t a great name, so I hope LG comes up with something better before this thing goes on sale. As a projector, the PF600U offers an LED FHD (1920 x 1080) image and 300 ANSI lumen brightness. It doesn’t produce the clearest views, but you can project a picture up to 120 inches with it. I thought the LG’s cabin results were perfectly fine for casual TV and movie viewing, especially in a small apartment where space is at a premium.

I didn’t get a chance to hear the sound quality of the PF600U, but LG says the device has passive radiator speakers built inside. Like picture quality, it’s probably good enough for quiet TV and music sound, but purists will certainly want something more robust. Again, the idea seems to be to save space rather than create premium sound quality, so it was never for them.

As for the lamp’s features, there are nine dimmable colored LEDs to set the mood. The top, which houses all the gear, tilts so the ring or lights below can be projected onto a wall or other surface. And as you might expect, everything is controlled by webOS. There are also buttons for positioning, mode switching, power and more on the top panel surrounded by the speaker grille.

LG has not yet announced pricing or availability for the PF600U. Those details will likely come closer to launch day.
