Levy must pull off a ‘horror show’ from Spurs who Postecoglou ‘really wanted’ to sign

For about a year and a half Tottenham Hotspur decided to appoint Ange Postecoglou as the new permanent manager.

Since then, it would be fair to say that the Australian has got some things right, like bringing the entertainment factor back into the team, but also some things wrong, like his inability to deal with the team’s consistency issues.

However, one area where he has generally found more success than failure has been transfers, as Micky van de Ven, Dominic Solanke, Brennan Johnson, James Maddison and others have improved the squad overall.

That said, there have been a couple of misses, including one that Postecoglou was initially very excited about, but will probably have to move in the summer.

Postecoglou’s bad signings

Before we get to the player in question, it’s worth examining another of Postecoglou’s questionable additions to the Spurs squad: Timo Werner.

The former Chelsea ace joined the club in a shock six-month deal loan agreement in January of this yearand while there was initial optimism that the Australian’s attacking philosophy would help unlock the Werner of old, that optimism quickly faded.

By the end of the campaign, the German international had scored just right two goals and three assists in 14 appearances, and while it’s not an abysmal return, it’s clearly not good enough for a club of Spurs’ stature.

Well, the board and manager seemed to disagree as the 28-year-old was re-signed on a season-long loan deal with an option to buy, but based on his performances this season, we can’t imagine that being an option that will be taken up.

For example, in his 20 appearancesthe Stuttgart-born flop has found the back of the net just once and made just three assists to boot.

All in all, the decision to re-sign the experienced striker is puzzling, but the positive is that the club didn’t have to pay a signing fee to do it, which can’t be said for another of the poor signings of the technician

The signing of Postecoglou who should be sold

So with most of Postecoglou’s signings working to some degree over the last year and a half, it should come as no surprise that the player we’re talking about is Radu Dragusinwho joined the club from Genoa in January for £26.7m after they told the manager they “really wanted” to sign him.

To be clear, though, we’re not suggesting that Spurs move on from the Romania international next month, as that would be incredibly irresponsible given his current injury problems, but come summer, it should go on.

Now, to his credit, the experienced defender has been reasonably good at times this season, filling in for injured teammates.

However, for all that he does well, he seems to get it wrong or just struggle to do the basics.

For example, in the Europa League alone, he has made a ton of mistakes, from his red card against Qarabağ to conceding a goal to Osimhen against Galatasaray and looking completely out of his depth against Rangers last week, even though it wasn’t. the only one

Furthermore, this season has also had its fair share of dire displays in the league, starting with defeats to Bournemouth, Chelsea and Ipswich Town, the latter of which was as poor as the reporter. Mitch Fretton described him as a “absolute horror show”.

Ultimately, while Dragusin is good enough to play in the Premier League, it has become clear that he is not good enough to be an important player for Spurs.

Therefore, if the club want to progress under Postecoglou, they should look to sell the defender in the summer.
