Lakers coach JJ Redick is emotional as he talks about the “terrible feeling” of losing his home in the wildfires.
Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick is one of the thousands whose homes were left unscathed by the Los Angeles wildfires that ravaged the area this week.
Redick was in Dallas for a game learned about the fires and said his family had been evacuated.
Speaking to the media on Friday, a day after the Lakers game at Crypto.com Arena was postponed, he talked about his experience returning to the Palisades and what he saw.

“I’m fine. My wife got out really early. She was actually on the other side and she got out, she saw the fire, she was with a few people and she went to the airport. … They got the kids from school. They were all important,” he said.

“I went to the hotel, woke up at 7 o’clock, went to the Palisades. I had to see it myself. I wasn’t prepared for what I saw. It’s complete destruction and devastation. I had to go home another way, but it went through most of the Village, and I’d never put myself through something like that. I don’t think you can make it.

Redick’s home was destroyed Thursday.
“We were renting for a year to try to figure out if we were going to be long-term, and everything that was important to us — almost 20 years together and 10 years of parenting — was in this house,” she gushed emotionally. Redick said. “There are some things you can’t replace. They will never be replaced.
“Whatever the financial stuff. My family and I are looking at our side, the personal side of losing your home. You don’t wish that on anyone. It’s a terrible feeling to lose your home. … I’m not sure I’ve cried or cried like that in years.
