Kate Beckinsale spoke about the abuse she suffered on the set

In a video clip that went viral, Beckinsale spoke about being called “that drunk” just for talking about a co-star who was “drunk every day” on set.
“He was going through something. I sympathize with it, but I waited, like the film crew, for six hours a day for him to learn his lines,” the actress recalled. “It means I won’t see my daughter in the evenings for the entire film. The studio responded by giving me a bike to ride around the studio while I wait. And then, of course, I was called k-nt and ch-ch. I was called a “stupid devil” during filming.
She then revealed that there were not one, but two different sets where she “was on such a strict diet and exercise program” that she “lost her period all together”.

While working on the action film, Beckinsale revealed that the man who plays her physically harmed her during a fight. However, when she brought up her injury, she found herself isolated by the rest of the cast.

“I said, ‘I can’t.’ I’m bleeding. I don’t want to go and change in front of strangers and do a photo shoot. I’m bleeding from a miscarriage,” she explained. “She said, ‘You’re going to have to or you’re going to be sued.’
“It’s happening. It went on forever. I have 47 million stories like that,” said the actress, shedding light on the harassment that actresses often face on the sets. “I was 18 years old and I felt like I was in the team of someone I really trusted. I went to the lead actress, who was known for being a fan of women, and said that this was happening, and was told, “No, it wasn’t.” I went to another actress and said I had just been assaulted by this man and said, “No, you weren’t.”

Beckinsale shares what it’s like to be a woman in the industry

She then went on to talk about how being a woman in the industry doesn’t allow you to mention it because if you do, “you’re screwed.”
“It has to be; you absorb it, and somehow you’re a friend,” she said. “This must be stopped. I am grateful to Blake Lively for pointing out that this is not an archaic problem that no one faces. It continues. When that happens, the machine kicks in to destroy you completely.”
Kate Beckinsale’s full statement
In the caption of her video, Beckinsale explained that:
“Everyone in EVERY industry needs to be taken seriously and not punished when something outrageous happens to them at work and the difference I guess in our industry is that it becomes something that plays out in the public sphere and it can be very very hard to accept and because it’s public and so public worldwide and very quickly becomes clickbait, it can also destroy someone’s livelihood, mental health and reputation and it it can be very difficult to recover.”

Against Blake Lively amid legal proceedings

Towards the end of her lengthy caption, the actress mentioned Blake Lively’s lawsuit against Justin Baldoni.
“I don’t want anyone, male or female, who has a legitimate claim to be held against them in any industry, anywhere, and I’m bringing this up with Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni because our industry is doing things more conspicuous by the deliberate involvement of the press and the public in forming an opinion which they do not understand is deliberate.’
