The 53-year-old Marvel star shared her gratitude in a poignant letter Instagram post uploaded on Wednesday, January 1 as he reflects on the snowplow accident that nearly killed him two years ago.
Renner was rushed to the hospital and subsequently broke more than 30 bones crushed by a snow plow at his home in Nevada on New Year’s Day 2023. In the caption of the post on Instagram, the actor marked the two-year anniversary of the near-fatal accident.
“Happy New Year to all of you…. “Calling in my second ReBirthday today, I express my love, respect and gratitude to the army of people it took to put me back together again,” he wrote.
“Thank you to every nurse, doctor, EMS… I literally owe you my life. My heart goes out to my handsome, brave nephew and the angels (my neighbors) who came to my rescue and endured the chaos for 45 long minutes on the icy pavement on New Year’s morning. I am so sorry for all the unpleasant images I have imprinted on all of you (I will spare you all the meat-grinding images)…”
He continued: “My list of gratitude is very long…. With so much love and prayers pouring in from you all over the world (who need each and every one of them), my family has never left me, with some divine intervention , a little luck and a lot of miracles … I’m getting strong again. More openly. More favorite. More connected. And damn, BLESSED to take my next step, to take MY NEXT BREATH. Thank you to every fiber and cell in my body. I love you ALL ❤️. #MyNextBreath.”
Along with a lengthy caption, Renner shared a picture of himself in a hospital bed surrounded by doctors, nurses and hospital staff.
The January 2023 accident saw the actor crushed by a PistenBully, a 14,330-plus-pound snowplow, outside his home while clearing snow with his nephew.
The accident left Renner with more than 38 broken bones, including six broken ribs in 14 places, a broken tibia and a collapsed lung.
“I remember every wave” – he said Men’s health in July 2024 “I remember my head hitting the thing and it just pressing down on me – it’s exactly what you think it’s going to be. An immovable object and a crushing force, and something has to give. But, thank God, the skull did not give completely.”
