On Tuesday, January 7, a series of wildfires broke out in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood and the surrounding area of Los Angeles, causing massive destruction. At press time, 11 people have died as the fires have burned more than 37,000 hectares of land. In addition, more than 12,000 buildings were reported destroyed and tens of thousands of residents were forced from their homes under mandatory or voluntary evacuation orders.
As the wildfires continue to tear through the Los Angeles area, many of those affected are beginning to figure out their next steps. Jason, for his part, lamented the next struggle for real estate he faced Friday, January 10.
“I was searching the MLS (directory) trying to help families displaced by the fires find rental properties,” he said in an Instagram Story video. “I’m seeing dozens of examples of people trying to do things like this when they can’t get $9,500 or even $9,000, and then yesterday they increase the rent by more than 30 percent to $12,000.”
While Jason noted that he “stands for free market capitalism,” he claimed that he is “brazenly exploiting” the natural disaster at this time. Staves, 43, agreed with her boss, whom she previously dated in 2021.
“This is disgusting,” Stause wrote via her Instagram stories. “Other realtors who have a moral compass, let’s please let the board know.”
