Ivory Coast’s president says French forces will withdraw in January

Ivory Coast President Alassane Ouattara said in a year-end speech that French forces would withdraw from the West African nation in January, becoming the last country to weaken military ties with the former colonial power. Ouattara said late on Tuesday that Ivory Coast “can be proud of its army whose modernization is now effective.
