Ivory Coast’s president announced that French troops would withdraw in January

Ivory Coast President Alassane Ouattara said in a year-end speech that French forces would withdraw from the West African nation in January, becoming the last country to weaken military ties with the former colonial power. French troops have been forced to leave Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger, where military-led governments hostile to the former colonial ruler have seized power in recent years.
