Is the white lotus even an ontological series?

This post contains spoilers For “white lotus”.

Each premiere episode “White lotus” feels like a hint play. One of these people at a picturesque resort – we always know from the deadly cold open show – will die, and there is a very good chance that someone will kill them. The structure that stands behind the multi-em-series Mike White makes it clearly entertaining and the participants of the clock, even when the satire is removed with real emotions and darkness. Most viewing experiences deteriorate, constantly guessing forward, but “white lotus” asks us to do so by puncturing each new episode with exotic potential threats such as toxic fruits or poisonous snakes.

The show can push new viewers and fans to think like Agatha Christie, but in the 3rd season his secret comes with some strange prerequisites. From the first day of the trip to Thailand, it is clear that there will be several links for the past seasons of the HBO series, when the chief Hawaiian spa manager Belinda (Natasha Rothvel) returns to the acting staff when Tanya Jennifer Kulidge returned to the second season of the show. But in the episode 3 it is obvious that the new version of the White Lotus will not pass through the past subjects, as its predecessor did. Instead, this put Belinda in crossed Killer 2 season – And calling the status of the whole show as an anthology, in this process.

White lotus season 3 just installed a multi -edition story

Before this episode of this week, which is aptly called “The meaning of dreams”, the dark comedy show White was an autonomous anthology. New viewers could join the series in the second season without watching the first, with the strange relationship of Tanya and Greg (John Gris) as the only connective tissue between them. These two characters that occurred since the 1 season have never been a barrier to the newcomers, because the cullet played Tanya as inexplicable in each setting, and the Greg’s attitude was enough between the seasons to make it unrecognizable even for the return of the audience.

Season 3 seemed to be headed in the same direction. He introduced a number of new, delicious unlikely characters (and the couple that should be rooted), including the trio of the old, blonde at school in full “real housewives”, a terrible, polite family led by Jason Isaac, and “Mapy” (Walton Guggins) Lu Wood). Belinda’s presence did not initially seemed unprofitable for the ontological formula, as she was easily explained to her story in the analysis with her local colleague Pornchai (Dom hetrakul). But then Greg appeared againObviously, hiding and now goes by the name of Harry. What is even more important: Belinda recognized him and faced him, and it may be at risk.

“The meaning of dreams” is the moment when “white lotus” may become dramaturgy, not an anthology. After all, everyone who decided to set up only for season 3, the assumption that they didn’t have a marathon in the past seasons (Eg Blackpink fansEither people who really love Kerry Kun) will certainly be confused when Belinda approached Harry for dinner, asking him about her former opportunity for virtuous Tanya and earn a few excuses and several excuses. Earlier, the episode also has a short but important scene when Greg Khloe (Charlotte Le Bon) tells Chelsea (Wood) that his ex -wife killed himself while going to the ocean. This is a story that connects directly to the season 2, but the aliens with the series will not understand that it is significant and lie. In the end, Tanya was killed by men Grego seemingly hired. In addition, her whole body was found, given the details of the account of Chloe (in which she said only the leg was restored) even more suspicious. It seems also appropriate to know that Greg has four former wives, what people start in 3 season will not know.

Labels are only important for the award season

To make it clear, there is nothing wrong with the ontology of the series turns into a dramatic series. Many other shows did this before, though some (look like you, “American horror story”), trying to cling to the title of ontology, becoming more laborned returns and serialized subjects. The A Show label only works in question as far as it helps people classify it. At the cultural level, the White Lotus has already moved to the “dramaturgy” category, although many other awards still recognize it as an anthology. At the audience level, it’s just as simple as giving another answer when someone inevitably asks: “Do I start from the beginning, or can I jump out now?”

Perhaps most importantly, the “white lotus” becomes more serialized in a way that admires and delights. First of all, we never learned about Gris’s character, and Belindo did not give the hero she deserved. In the absurdist, uncomfortable world of this show, it is difficult to imagine a happy ending when they have a showdown, but the tension between one of the most favorite show characters and one of the most horrible-exciting and nervous ones. I don’t think I will like the show so much when it turned back too hard, but the white was never interested in it and always used the ambiguity of the story with great effect.

Belindo-Grego’s showdown also meets the Buddhist principles that Thailand tourists continue to fumble. Mike White essentially reincarnates these characters, poop and everything to learn how their ways change or remain the same when they have provided a new life. Name this ontology or the dramatic series – in any case, it’s good television.

New Episodes of the White Lotus air on HBO and stream on Max every Sunday at 21 hours, etc.
