iPhone 17 rumors point to a camera band on the back
It will likely be many months until Apple debuts new models in its iPhone lineup, but rumors have been fueled recently with images that purportedly show an iPhone 17 design that includes a camera band on the back.
One of these leaked imageswhich shows what appears to be the iPhone’s back shell with a camera strip at the top comes from Majin Bu, an Apple watcher who correctly predicted the iPhone 16 desert titanium color in 2024 Bu is not always right; like Macrumors points outhe was wrong about the iPad 11 release the previous year.
The latest leak, which could be a 3D-printed amateur prototype or an elaborate fake, looks real in line with other iPhone 17 rumors and speculation about Apple’s direction with its next range of smartphones. Analysts say they expect Apple to introduce a “Slim” or “Air” version of the iPhone with a smaller screen that is less bulky than the Plus or Pro Max.
The image shared by Boo features a design that brings together all the lenses on the back of the phone on an oval-shaped band not unlike Google uses on its Pixel phones. Rumors suggest that the new design will combine glass and aluminum rather than titanium material promoted by Apple.
There is also speculation that the image of Majin Bu could be for a new iPhone SE modelif the company chooses to launch a fourth-generation model of the budget phone.
Other Apple rumor watchers, including Max Tech’s Vadim Yuriev, believe the camera strap, if true, could be controversial but ultimately a “work of genius” if it delivers a device that can record horizontal and vertical video at the same time.
Speculation about the iPhone 17 lineup also includes rumors of higher screen refresh rates, updated camera lenses, and of course, upgrades to Apple’s flagship iPhone processors.
Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
