India-US BTA talks begin this week amid tariff concerns; physical round set for second half of May

India and the United States are preparing to start a fresh stage of negotiations this week for a bilateral trade agreement (BTA), and in the second half of 2025 it is the leader.

According to the Ministry of Education, a high-ranking official.

This step is followed by a key phase of the Faculty of Commerce and USA (USTR representatives of the USTR), which took place on March 26 to 29 in Delhi. The meetings were helped on both sides “widely understand the next steps to BTA,” said the official.

The Ministry stressed that the current process supports a high-level political agreement. “There is a clear way, which was decided at the level of leaders,” said the official.

Highlighting the strategic importance of negotiations, the ministry said:

Trade between the two countries is strong, with which the United States continue to be the best export destination in India. India has exported $ 86.51 billion worth of goods to the United States in 2024, and the ministry expects this momentum to grow further. “We will trade with us higher,” the official added.
