If you deleted this strange new folder in Windows, you should return it. Here’s how

The empty folder, marked with “ITPub”, has caused curiosity and confusion online, with some people deleting it. The folder is used to manage registration files for Internet information services, but it has even appeared for those who do not have this service.

“After installing the updates listed in the security update table for your operating system, your device will create a new %SystemDrive %\ Inetpub folder,” says Microsoft in a Security updateS “This folder should not be deleted, whether Internet information services (IIS) are active on the target device. This behavior is part of the changes that increase protection and do not require any action by IT administrators and end users.”
Microsoft said the deletion creates a problem in which the attacker can use what is called “connection after a disadvantage” to access your computer. Microsoft did not immediately answer a request for further comment.
What to do if you deleted the “ITPub” folder in Windows
