A woman resident of Gurgaon has recounted a terrifying encounter with an Uber driver that left her in a rush early in the morning. The incident was shared on Reddit by user kushpyro1 who posted a screenshot of the disturbing conversation with the driver.

In a post on the r/gurgaon subreddit, a user described their anxiety as they were about to catch a train: “I’m shaking as I write this actually. I have a train in 1 hour and God knows if I’ll get there on time.” they wrote, explaining that they ordered the “Priority Sedan” car to the station.

As the driver approached, the user decided to check the OTP and opened the Uber chat, where he found a strange message from the driver. The screenshot revealed a brief exchange. the cyclist wrote an SMS. “I am here. Get off at Anand Vihar Terminal. Please come,” to which the driver replied ominously.

The user expressed his panic, saying: “I don’t know what impulse came over me (at 4am, barely sleepy and panicking after reading a text from a guy literally a few seconds in front of me), but I thought: cancel taxi.” When they started canceling the ride, the driver did the same, prompting the user to run off with his luggage. They managed to take a screenshot just before the cancellation.

While many Reddit users were concerned about the message, some speculated that it may have been an autocorrect error. “Looks like the autocorrect went wrong. Good thing you took a different taxi,” while another suggested it might be a translation error, noting the phrase didn’t make much sense.

Uber’s answer

In a follow-up post, the user noted that they tried multiple translations to clarify the driver’s message, but found that “kidnapping” was the only accurate translation of “locker.”

The user reported the incident to Uber’s response team, who assured them that the driver would be banned from accepting or viewing their ride requests indefinitely reporting exposure or terminating your Uber account,” they added.
