How to find career success in 2025 from a professor and author
As of October 2024, more than half of workers, 56%, are looking for a new job or plan to do so in 2025. Resume Templates survey 1,258 full-time US employees. A third of them plan to leave their current job even if they don’t have another shift.
Whatever your career plans for 2025—whether you’re looking for a new gig, hoping to get a promotion, or just want to get better at your current position—there are steps you can take now to make progress.

Define your goals
To get started, start defining what you want to achieve in the new year or even in a few years.
“We want to look at an accomplishment that we want to have in the future,” Fragale says, adding that it could be “you’ve built a product or started a mentoring program.” example. Being able to write your resume or anything you will be proud of.
Then, you want to work backwards from there and take some actionable steps on how to do it. In 2025, Fragale says, these steps will help you make choices when looking at your to-do list. “If not everything can be done, which of these will move me most toward those goals?”
Identify “three to five connections” to achieve them
Once you’ve figured out what you want to achieve, identify “three to five relationships that will help you achieve that goal,” says Fragale. These can be people who have created similar products or are in the position you want to reach, or anyone you think can help you progress.
Then “start thinking about how you can add value to their lives in 2025,” he says. Can you help them with the project they are working on? Can you make a helpful presentation? Can you share some new research on their work? Helping them first can turn your relationship into something more meaningful that can be mutual.
Try to touch base with them twice a year to maintain these relationships. That way, if they can eventually help you, you’ll have built that connection and have a natural opening to ask.
“Get comfortable talking about your wins”
Finally, “feel comfortable talking about your wins,” says Fragale.
This could mean sending an email to your boss telling them about some of the things you achieved this week or what your team accomplished. It’s a “how’s it going?” may mean finding a good way to answer the question. in your personal life highlighting one or two things you do well.
If your success happens “behind closed doors,” Fragale says, “no one knows about it” and you won’t reap the benefits.
Fragale, who simply knows how to flaunt her winnings, has met “some of the people that mean the most to me professionally” at places like “an airport bar, my kid’s birthday party.”
