Will Robinson, a father of four, including Clara, died in the crash while trying to save the 5-year-old girl, who was unresponsive when paramedics arrived.
The girl was later reunited with her family, which firefighters said was a “great blessing in this tragedy.”
“The father had his little girl in his arms (at the time of the incident) and then they weren’t together, so he was trying to save her — definitely,” said Bart Bowman of Sherman Fire Rescue.

“One of our guys was able to find the little girl under the water, pulled her out and handed her over to one of our paramedics who was with her,” Bowman said. “That paramedic took him to the emergency room and they did CPR on the way to the hospital. … With a drowning like that, it’s absolutely remarkable that he was able to go home the next day without any problems. That’s a great blessing in this tragedy.”
Community members told Fox 4 that Will Robinson was the girls basketball coach at Durant High School in Oklahoma.
“He always brought CJ (daughter Clara) to practice and she always played with us,” Kinley Hill said.
The players noted that Robinson was an understanding coach and said he did everything he could to keep them in a positive frame of mind.

“She was very patient with us girls,” said player Emery Morse. “Honestly, I don’t think I can ever remember him ever raising his voice in anger at us. … (He and CJ) were absolutely two peas in a pod. They were at practice, always together, and CJ would just run. Ask him or a snack.”
