In a recent revelation, a former Indian cricket stalwart Harbhajan Singh has addressed long-standing rumors of a rift between him and Ravichandran Ashwin. The speculation came after Ashwin’s unexpected retirement announcement, which closed the chapter on one of the most illustrious careers in Indian cricket.

Ravichandran Ashwin: A pivotal figure in Indian bowling

Ashwin, who recently announced his retirement from international cricket after the Gabba Test against Australia, he has been a pivotal figure in India’s bowling line-up. His career, which spanned more than a decade, saw him cross paths with Harbhajan, another legendary spinner known for his aggressive style and significant contributions to Indian cricket. Over the years, comparisons between these two non-spinners have been inevitable, leading to rumors of discord, especially on social media platforms.

Harbhajan Singh addresses rift rumor with Ashwin

In a candid video posted on his YouTube channel, Harbhajan tried to set the record straight. He began by praising Ashwin’s achievements, mentioning how exceptional Ashwin was for the Indian team and was happy for the Chennai-born cricketer’s success. Harbhajan thought that if there was any problem between him and Ashwin, he would be the first to clear things up, but it was nothing like that.

“He has been a phenomenal bowler for India. I am very happy for his success. If there is a clash between me and Ashwin or if there has been any fight, quarrel or disagreement, I would be the first person to approach- know him and ask him what the problem is. But it was never like that, and it never will be like that.” Harbhajan said on his YouTube channel, stressing that any speculation about a personal feud was unfounded.

He further clarified that his comments, often criticizing the spin-friendly nature of Indian pitches, were misconstrued as criticism of Ashwin.

“If people are twisting things on Twitter and making it look like I have a problem with Ashwin, then that’s their point. I’m a bit vocal about the fact that the pitches India play cricket on are not good clues”. Harbhajan added.
