Why Gypsy Rose decided to name her daughter Aurora
In December, less than a month before giving birth, Gypsy said People magazine that she couldn’t take on her daughter’s name. “Ken came up with it,” she explained. “It has a whole backstory.”
Although some people thought that it was inspired by the Disney princess in Sleeping Beauty, this was not the case. It also had nothing to do with her stepmother’s dog, who is named Aurora Grace. Instead, the story comes from the couple’s shared fascination with the Northern Lights.
“Whenever Ken and I were together seven years ago, we were both fascinated by the northern lights, and the correct term is aurora borealis,” she explained, noting that the two had talked about the subject while she was still behind bars. . .

Gypsy Rose thinks her mom would forgive her for her actions
Growing up, Gypsy was subjected to unnecessary medical treatments and surgeries, including the removal of her teeth and salivary glands. She was also confined to a wheelchair and frequently had feeding tubes inserted to address her mother’s claims that she suffered from fabricated illnesses.
Despite working with her then-boyfriend Nicholas Goddejon to kill her mother in 2015, she believes her mother would have forgiven her. In the epilogue to her memoir, My Time To Stand, she revealed that her young daughter had a shocking connection with her mother: the ninth anniversary of Dee Dee’s death was the same day Gypsy got her first sonogram.
“I like to think that my mother is telling me that she wants me to get on with my life, that she forgives me,” Gypsy said. “And what I will do on this anniversary is her way of helping me change the way I think about myself every June 10th. Maybe now, with my freedom, we can both get out of our purgatories. Maybe now she can be free too. She always said that we are two sides of the same coin.”
