Get free skins in Call of Duty Squid Crossover live game now
Originally released in September 2021, the first season of Netflix’s dystopian show Squid Game took the world by storm with a narrative featuring marginalized people fighting tooth and nail to survive for the entertainment of the rich and powerful.
Naturally, that means the hit show is now in a crossover event with Call of Duty to celebrate the release of its second season.
The Call of Duty Squid Game event begins on January 3, 2025. While the update introduces new game modes for Black Ops 6 and Warzone, it also emphasizes content monetization more than ever by including a new premium event with rewards, according to an official blog post.
Here’s everything you need to know about the Call of Duty Squid Game update, including when it’s coming out, what goodies you can earn for free, and which ones you’ll have to pay for.
When is the Call of Duty Squid in Black Ops 6 game release date and time?
The new update includes skins for Squid Game guards and players.
The Call of Duty Squid Game crossover is live now on all platforms. Players who have downloaded the new patch can jump into the new limited time modes and start progressing in the event pass right away.
Squid Game’s brand new content drop launched simultaneously on Black Ops 6 and Warzone on Friday, January 3. Here’s when you can switch to the new Limited Time Modes (LTM) in your time zone:
Eastern Standard Time: January 3, 2025 at 12 o’clock
Central Standard Time: January 3, 2025 at 11 in the morning
Mountain weather: January 3, 2025 at 10 in the morning
pacific time: January 3, 2025 at 9 in the morning
PC players can preload new Black Ops 6 and Warzone updates ahead of time, while console players can access the latest patch just hours before it hits the live servers. This is the norm for Call of Duty HQ launcher updates.
Free Squid Game operator skin for everyone
Squid Game’s new crossover features new operator skins, emblems, calling cards and more for players to earn – and every single Black Ops 6 and Warzone player will be able to get a new operator skin without lifting a finger (or open your wallet) .
The first time you open Black Ops 6 during the Squid Game crossover, you’ll earn the Player 006 Operator skin for Niran, which can be used in Multiplayer, Zombies, or Warzone modes.
Free prizes — and a premium event pass
This update brings a new mini battle pass for the Squid Game event.
The new event kicks off with unlockable rewards — mostly phone cards, emblems and little else double XP tokens — climax in a unlock new weapon. In this way, it is no different from previous Black Ops 6 events.
Ironically, however, the Squid Game event introduces a new way to drain money from your wallet with a new premium event pass.
If you want to earn the new weapon blueprints and the Front Man operator skin, you’ll need to purchase the new event pass – think of it as an additional, smaller completion battle pass that doesn’t cover an entire season.
If we are unlucky that additional combat passes becomes the norm, any player interested in collecting the items from each event will have to cough up more money for battle passes (and probably have to go into the Squid game themselves to afford it).
Squid Game LTMs bring games to life
The new limited-time multiplayer, zombie, and Warzone modes aim to bring the thrill of the Squid Game to Call of Duty, capturing the mixed feeling of childhood fun with inevitable doom. These game modes are based on some of the most iconic games in the Netflix series show.
Multiplayer
There is some element of “red light, green light” in most LTM.
There are three Squid Game playlists coming to Black Ops 6 multiplayer: red light, green light, pentathlon, and the Squid Game moshpit.
Red Light, Green Light takes place at Red Card Stadium (finally, that wide open space is good for something) where players will play three rounds of the popular children’s game.
Each round lasts two minutes. In the first round, there are no weapons on the field, but in the second and third rounds, players will fight with melee weapons and finishing moves when Young-hee calls out “green light,” dramatically raising the stakes in this free-for-all.
Pentathlon is an homage to a game from Squid Game’s latest season, but it’s a pretty straightforward multiplayer playlist. It includes Domination, Kill Confirmed and Hardpoint modes, as well as two new modes inspired by the Squid Game.
Piggy Bank Team Deathmatch is a mode that adds extra points to a piggy bank for every kill made during a match. At a certain point during the battle, the piggy bank will become available to all players and teams will have to fight to get extra points.
Roulette is a new game mode that emulates One in the Chamber — with a twist. As you eliminate enemies with your one shot, one kill gun, there is a chance it will explode in your hands, eliminating you as well.
The latest LTM is the Squid Game moshpit, which adds the piggy bank and the Roulette gun to the normal Team Deathmatch, Domination, and Hardpoint modes. An additional feature unique to the moshpit playlist is a red light, green light that forces the enemy team to stop moving or face elimination.
zombies
Dead Light, Green Light will force players to spend their points as soon as possible instead of saving them for big purchases later.
The new Dead Light, Green Light LTM is available at Liberty Falls and Citadelle des Morts. The good news is that running a red light won’t get you shot by an armed guard. The bad news is that it will completely ruin your points economy.
This is because the entire premise of zombies LTM hinges on giving and taking away your ability to buy armor, weapons, and power-ups if you break the game play. During Young-hee’s “green light” phase, players will earn double points, which helps them run around the map and make necessary purchases much more efficiently.
The “red light” phase threatens to punish players for not spending enough, as movement during this time gradually depletes accumulated points. Honestly, if you’re not moving, you’re probably being eaten by the undead — so it’s important to spend points while you have the green light.
The final twist is the “dead light” special summon, which signals that you’re about to be jumped by a really nasty, voracious horde. This is where the bigger, meaner enemies like Abominations and Amalgams come out, so you’ll want to prepare adequately for a tough fight.
Warzone
Squid Game actually makes a lot of sense for a game like Call of Duty Warzone.
Squid Game is perfectly positioned for Battle Royale, and Warzone takes full advantage of this by transforming Urzikstan into an arena for a rotating set of themed challenges. As each round ends, the lowest performing teams will be eliminated, bringing you that little bit closer to victory.
Warzone mode can also be interrupted by red light, green light — meaning players can get stuck in a precarious position on the map at almost any time if they don’t play strategically.
New Squid Game tracker packs in store
In addition to the premium event pass, three new Squid Game-themed microtransactions are being added to the Call of Duty store.
The Pink Guards Tracer Pack includes Masked Manager, Masked Soldier and Masked Worker skins, a Game Guard SMG blueprint, a Rule Master Assault Rifle blueprint and an assortment of emblems, grills, weapon talismans and calling cards.
The VIPs Tracer Pack includes the Panther Mask VIP and Lion Mask VIP operator skins, the most chosen launch plan, a varnished sniper rifle plan, a Satin Slayer SMG plan, a Death Plated frag grenade skin and an assortment of extras including a finishing move, an emblem , phone card and loading screen.
This is the wackiest tracking pack in the content drop, but I’m sure it will stop some people dead in their tracks.
Finally, there’s the Young-hee Tracer Pack – yes, you can play as the creepy girl from “red light, green light”. In addition to the new operator skin, the pack includes the Don’t Move assault rifle blueprint, The Curator marksman rifle blueprint, and a host of other options, including a new finishing move, emblem, decal, spray, phone card, and emote.
