Former NFL coach Jon Gruden, who said pass interference is the “biggest concern,” suggests limiting the penalty box

Gruden then brought up the subjective nature of the call.
“I don’t think that there is no common connection between what happened and what is insurmountable. “I think this crew calls it a little different than that crew. It’s a penalty right now that I think has taken over a lot of these games.”

After the podcast’s co-host suggested that an NFL player could be awarded a free yardage simply by fumbling the ball, Gruden argued that pass interference should only be called in cases where it’s clear and the foul is “obvious.”

In 2019, the league approved a proposal that made pass interference a reviewable play. The decision appeared to be in response to a controversial play in the 2018 NFC championship game.
The refs didn’t call what many argued was pass interference during the NFC title game Los Angeles Rams and the New Orleans Saints. The Rams defeated the Saints in overtime and advanced to the Super Bowl.
NFL teams’ ability to review pass interference was eliminated in 2020.
