FIVETRAN, which helps businesses move data from various sources to cloud databases, announced on Thursday that he has acquired CensusPlatform for back extract, transformation and charging (ETL) that allows companies to transfer database data to operating tools. George Fraser, co -founder and CEO of Fivetran, told TechCrunch that the deal makes sense for Fivetran for many reasons. On the one hand, customers have been asking Fivetran for years for the reverse ETL solution.

The company thought to develop its own supply, reaching the point that it is building a prototype. But Fraser said that Fivvran realized that it would be better to use resources to introduce a company that she had already invented instead.

“Technically speaking, if you look at the code under (these) services, they are actually quite different,” Fraser said. “You have to solve a very different set of problems to do this.”

Once Fiveran decides that he has a more meaning to add ETL reverse by acquisition, the census is a natural choice, Fraser said, as the two companies share many of the same customers and the two platforms are very stylistic.

“People who like Fiveran compared to Informatica or building their own connectors, they will be people who also like the census,” Fraser said. “The two products make a similar philosophical choice, so they tend to please the same customers, which is very important when you think of synergy.”

It does not harm the fact that the founding teams of the census and Fiveran go back. Fraser said he met with the census team, which included Executive Director Boris Jabes and Anton Weinsshtok, during the 2013 Y Combinator Winter Batch.

“We talked to the founders of the census about their idea before they even started the company, and Taylor (Brown) and I was joking at a time when it could be acquired because there was a lot of synergy between the two things,” Fraser said. “Somehow this is fateful, in my opinion.”
