FCC ends DEI initiatives after Trump’s executive order

president Donald Trump signed an executive order ending diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs in the federal government on Monday, and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) followed through on that order on Tuesday following a change in presidential administration.
FCC Chairman Brendan Carr said in a post on X that he is “ending the FCC’s promotion of DEI and will focus our work on competently carrying out the FCC’s statutory mission.” Carr added that the FCC no longer include the promotion of DEI in the agency’s strategic plans.
Carr explained the agency’s reasoning for termination DEI program A statement released by the FCC said: “Promoting invidious forms of discrimination violates the Communications Act and deprives Americans of their rights to fair and equal treatment under the law.”
“It also represents a waste of taxpayer resources. However, the FCC joined other private and public sector institutions in promoting discriminatory DEI policies during the Biden administration’s rulemaking and many other components of its official work.”

“Yesterday, President Trump took swift and decisive action that will end the radical and wasteful DEI programs that have spread throughout the government,” Carr wrote in a statement released by the FCC. “President Trump’s leadership on this matter will deliver great results for the American people because agencies act according to its executive order.
Among the DEI initiatives Carr is rolling out at the FCC is its promotion within the agency’s strategic plan, which listed DEI’s promotion as the regulator’s second-highest strategic priority.

during The Biden administrationThe FCC also signaled to Congress in its annual budget requests that it would use appropriated funds to promote DEI, requests that will now be excluded from future requests.
It FCC’s DEI Advisory Panel and an interagency group known as the Digital Discrimination Task Force will also be disbanded.
In addition, the FCC’s equity action plan would be rescinded, and the directive directing FCC advisory committees to promote DEI would be rescinded.

DEI will also be removed from the FCC’s annual performance plans along with its economic reports.
