Elon Musk says only a far-right extremist group “can save” Germany

Elon Musk, America’s richest oligarch, has tweeted an endorsement of Germany’s AfD political party, and many Germans are not happy about that fact. why It probably has something to do with the AfD’s racism, xenophobia and xenophobia ties to neo-Nazis. You know, just the normal stuff that Musk finds himself promoting here in 2024. as a top adviser to Donald Trump.

“Only the AfD can save Germany,” the billionaire wrote in the early morning hours of Friday.

Musk’s tweet promoted another tweet from Naomi Seibt, a German climate change denier, has become known as the anti-Greta Thunberg. Seibt also promotes conspiracy theories and has been accused of anti-Semitism, according to Guardiana claim she denies.

Germany’s far-right was moved by Musk’s tweet, including Alice Weidel, who is running for chancellor as co-leader of the AfD in the upcoming elections in February, as German DW announcements in news outlets.

“Yes! You are absolutely right!” Weidel tweeted next to Musk. “Please also watch my interview on President Trump, how socialist Merkel has ruined our country, how the Soviet European Union destroys (sic) the economic backbone of countries and malfunctioning Germany!”

Germany’s Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, its domestic intelligence agency, has designated the AfD as a “suspected terrorist organization” and at least two German states have officially classified it as such, according to DW.

But many other politicians in Germany were less enthusiastic, noting Musk’s meddling in German politics and his rather notorious lack of intelligence, often on display in late-night tweets. Alexander Trom, a politician from the Christian Democratic Union political party, even joked about Musk’s cognitive difficulties while speaking to local media.

“I was a little surprised because we usually hear that Elon Musk is this gifted prodigy, but when I hear these comments, I have to question that,” Trom told DW. “Change can only be made by those who govern. And the AfD will not govern. Because no other party will form a government with them.”

Musk’s support has serious implications for Americans as well, given the fact that he appears to be the most powerful political figure in the country right now. Musk doubled his net worth this year as the world’s richest man and helped get Donald Trump elected by spending more than a quarter of a billion dollars on Republican races in 2024.

Musk, who has a history of racist commentsinsists he only voted Republican for first time in 2022, suggesting he only voted Democratic before then. But even if we take him at his word (he lies often, like when he initially denied financing Trump’s presidential campaign), he’s still become a force in Republican politics. And he’s using that power right now.

In fact, Musk has vowed to initiate a primary against any Republican who crosses him, which is no idle threat given the fact that he still runs a political action committee called America PAC. Musk also funded a group that ran ads to promote the confirmation of Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense. These ads are credited applying pressure of Sen. Joni Ernst of Iowa, who was seen as a possible vote against Hegseth because of her history as a combat veteran who has spoken publicly about his experiences with sexual abuse. Hegsett is accused of sexual violencea charge he denies. Ernst now appears to be backing Hegseth’s confirmation.

Musk is also making waves in the legislative world even before Trump officially takes office on January 20, 2025. The U.S. House of Representatives is currently trying to secure funding to keep the government open before a 12:01 a.m. deadline that would have shut down many government functions, but Musk is credited with two bills introduced Thursday.

House Speaker Mike Johnson is reportedly working on another version of the funding bill, which is set to receive a vote on Friday. But everyone is keeping an eye on Musk’s X account, where he gives orders and organizes his army of dumb influencers who put pressure on politicians. If Musk gives the thumbs up, it looks likely to pass. If he says no, Trump will likely follow suit and we’ll find ourselves in a government shutdown right in the middle of the busy holiday season.

We live in a very transparent oligarchy at this point. And Musk’s promotion of a far-right party like the AfD is not a good sign of things to come.
