Ella Purnell has one concern after starring in Arcane & Fallout
While the number of great video game adaptations has grown over the past few years, they’re still pretty hard to find. That is, unless you’re Ella Purnell. The Yellowjacket veteran has starred in not one, but two of the most critically-acclaimed video game series of late. Her first attempt was in 2021 when she voiced Jinx in the wonderful Netflix animated series Arcane (which itself is set in the League of Legends universe). Then, three years later, she said “Okay, Ducky” to the apocalypse as Lucy in the Amazon series “Fallout,” which / The film’s director, Rafael Motamayor, described it in his review as “an excellent adaptation of a video game”. While it’s great to be a part of a pair of huge hits, Purnell revealed that she plans to hit pause on appearing in other video game projects in the future.
During her visit to MCM x EGX 2024 (via Popular poems), Purnell admitted that two shows based on beloved video games might be enough for now. “I really think I need to stay away from video game adaptations now because I’m going to get typography. I’m going to be a video game girl. I think there are worse things than this,” she admitted. While appearing in a story that originally came with a loading screen might be risky, its track record is impressive. “Fallout” has a rating of 94%. Rotten tomatoeswith 1 season becomes one of Prime Video’s biggest hits. Otherwise, both seasons of “Arkain” have 100% ratings on RT. Not bad for someone who barely played any video games.
Ella Purnell is not a gamer (and that’s totally fine)
As it stands, the “Fallout” and “Arcane” star doesn’t look like she’ll be picking up a controller anytime soon, given how little she’s done in the past. “Here’s the truth, and I feel guilty saying this, but I’m not a gamer, and I don’t know how I managed to get two video game adaptations that were good. I don’t know how it happened, but I don’t know the answer,” Purnell admitted. Maybe someone inserted a cheat code?
At the moment, the only game-related gig she’ll be returning to is Fallout, which Purnell confirmed Diversitywill return to production in 2025. There’s no official release date for the long-awaited second season at the moment, but it looks like the series’ funniest character will be reuniting with Walton Goggins’ Ghoul and Aaron Moten’s Maxim sooner rather than later. “My only preparation so far is that I’m trying to train — and that’s just knowing that in six months I’ll be running uphill 500 times and trying not to have an asthma attack,” Purnell explained. Given how Fallout Season 1 ended.Lucy will once again find herself at the forefront of chaos when the show returns, especially now that her father (Kyle McLachlan) has left for lands unknown. Let’s hope she reaches the level she expects.
