Egypt: A tourist was killed in a Red Sea shark attack near Marsa Alam
According to AFP, the deceased is a 48-year-old resident of Rome, and the injured is 69 years old.
Egyptian officials said the two tourists were taken to a hospital in Port Ghalib, about 30 miles north of Marsa Alam.
Authorities said the swimming area at Marsa Alam would be closed and the incident was being investigated.
According to data compiled by the independent Shark Research Institute, there have been four confirmed deaths from shark attacks in the past 10 years.
The last incident took place near Hurghada in June 2023 and involved a 24-year-old Russian.
