Gov. Newsom Rep Responds to Trump’s message

Trump voiced his fierce opposition via Truth Social. He began by addressing Newsom as “Governor Gavin Newscom” and then said that the fires in California were the result of the politician’s refusal to sign a “water restoration declaration.” Trump wrote that the legislation “allowed millions of gallons of water” from rain and melting snow in the North to flow daily into other parts of the state. “…including areas that are now burning almost apocalyptically” – added the newly elected president.

Donald Trump also claimed that Gov. Gavin Newsom wanted to protect an endangered species of fish called the Delta more than Californians. The species lives in the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta. In 2019, environmentalists and California officials reportedly opposed adding more water to the river because it could mean the loss of salmon, smelt and steelhead. At the time, the Trump administration wanted to send more water to growers in the middle of the state.

“Now the ultimate price is being paid. I will demand that this incompetent governor get nice, clean, fresh water flowing to CALIFORNIA! He is guilty of this. On top of that, there is no water for fire hydrants or fire planes. A real disaster,” said Trump.
