Don Lemon defends friend Matt Lauer 7 years after being fired today

Don Lemon has a friend Lauer’s goal back after ex today was the host of the show kicked out of his high-profile gig in 2017.
Appearing on the Wednesday, January 22 episode of “Hollywood Raw Podcast with Dax Holt and Adam GlynnLemon, 58, believes Lauer, 67, could make a successful comeback — potentially on a podcast.
“I think if he could go back to digital, he could chart his own course,” he explained, before adding: “But I only met Matt after, you know, the whole situation happened.”
The former CNN anchor said he’s seen Lauer receive positivity from fans first-hand during public speaking engagements.
“Every time I see Matt out or, you know, even with us when we go out to lunch, my husband (Tim Malone) goes to lunch with him and his fiancee and people love him. Women love him. They’re like, “Man, oh my god, can I take a picture?” love you I miss you on TV.’ right?” he recalled. “I think the audience loves him. The public misses him, but only… people in business are afraid.”
He added: “Maybe there’s a way he’ll come back, but I think more people in the business are worried about what happened to Matt.”

“I think the public… I’ll say yes. I think the general public will – just me – accept Matt back. And I think people will watch it, and I think the ratings will be great.”
This is not the first time that there have been proposals to return to the industry. Whisper comeback for Lauer became louder in April 2024, when the source said Us Weekly exclusively that the host was “planning a comeback” years after he was fired from NBC amid sexual misconduct allegations.
“He started talking to people,” an insider shared with us at the time. “He’s planning his next act, still very upset about how he was found out and still feeling like a victim.”
Among the many other famous men involved in the #MeToo movement, ex today the owner hit the headlines in November 2017 after a colleague accused him of inappropriate behavior. He was eventually fired the same month following the allegations. In 2019, journalist Ronan Farrow published details of the alleged attack in his book Catch and Kill. Lauer denied all the accusations against him.
