Doge plans to restore SSA code base for months by risking benefits and collapse of system

SSA’s main “logic” is also largely written in Cobol. This is the code that issues the social security number, manages payments, and even calculates the total amount that beneficiaries have to receive for various services, says a former SSA senior technologist who has worked in the Cabinet of the Chief Information Officer. Even minor changes can lead to cascading failures in different programs.

“If you were not worried about a whole bunch of people not to receive benefits or get the wrong benefits, or to get the wrong rights or to have to wait centuries, then for sure,” says Dan Hon, director of very little Gravitas, a technological strategy consultation that helps the government’s brief.

It is unclear exactly when the code migration will start. A recent document, distributed among SSA employees, which sets the agency’s priorities through May, does not mention it, instead calls other priorities such as termination of “insignificant contracts” and accepting artificial intelligence to “increase” administrative and technical writing.

Earlier this month, Wired reports that at least 10 Doge operates They are currently working within the SSA, including a number of young and inexperienced engineers such as Luke Faritor and Ethan Shaotran. At that time, sources told Wired that Doge operating operators would focus on how people identify themselves to have access to their benefits online.

Sources within the SSA expect the project to start seriously after the DOG is identified and marked other beneficiaries as deceased and connecting Disparate agency databases. In the filed court on Thursday morning, Affidavit SSA Leland Dudek’s current administrator said that at the moment, at the moment, two Doge operators are working on a project officially called the project “You are alive” aimed at what these operatives consider to be incorrect payments and fraud in the agency system, calling individual beneficiaries. The agency is currently fighting to cover the access to SSA systems in court to complete this job. (Again, 150-year-olds They do not collect social security benefits. This specific age was probably a strangeness of Kobol. It does not include the type of date, so the dates are often encoded at a specific reference point-20 years of 1875, the date of an international conference for setting standards held in Paris known as the Du Mètre Convention.)

In order to migrate the entire Cobol code in a more modern language within a few months, Doge will probably need to use some form of generative artificial intelligence to help translate the millions of rows code, sources say. “Dog thinks that if they can say that they have gotten rid of the whole Kobol for months, then their path is the right way and we are all just nasty for not breaking shit,” says SSA technologist.

Doge also needs to develop tests to ensure that the outputs of the new system are in line with the previous one. It would be difficult to resolve all possible cases on the edge for several years, let alone months, adds SSA technology.

“This is an environment that takes place with a guarantee and channel tape,” says a former SSA senior technologist, who works at the office of the Chief Information Officer of Wired. “Leaders need to understand that they are dealing with a card or Jeng. If they start pulling pieces that they have already stated, things can break.”
