Disney+ fans need a break from the hated Marvel sequel

If Thor: Love and Thunder came out, I was as disappointed as most Marvel fans who wanted more impeccably weird, impeccably cozy atmospheres Thor: Ragnarok. Admittedly, director Taika Waititi’s work on the sophomore superhero isn’t as good as Ragnarokbut it’s not as bad as the haters make it out to be. And when I was re-reading the old Thor comics, it occurred to me that this movie is a lot better than its reputation, and a lot better than the other MCU movies that didn’t make fans feel so terrible.
After Ragnarok

First, let’s start with the hard truth: critics almost universally agree on this Thor: Love and Thunder the next movie was disappointing. incl Rotten tomatoes, Love and thunder has a rating of 63 percent, which means it’s dangerously close to being… well, rotten. meanwhile, Ragnarok sitting high on the Asgardian throne with a 93 percent crit. If these two films were precocious young gods attending school in Asgard, Ragnarok would be a prize student Love and thunder would be the class clown who barely passed the class let alone the assignment.
I’m ripping off the Band-Aid right now because I don’t want any of you to think I’m talking Love and thunder better than Ragnarokwhich seamlessly combined humor and action, relying heavily on comedic chops Chris Hemsworth (it turns out they are just as developed as the rest of his muscles). However, this fourth Thor movie is infinitely better than Thor 2a film that simultaneously managed to squander the talents of Chris Eccleston and Natalie Portman. For that matter, Taika Waititi deserves full credit for bringing Portman back into the fold MCU largely through Love and thunder.
Compared to Iron Man 3

Also, while I personally love this movie (Shane Black can do no wrong in my eyes), Iron man 3 considered an early MCU dud that many fans berate for (among other things) wasting the Mandarin reveal. Common criticism Thor: Love and Thunder turn on it’s a little too dumb, but ask yourself: are the too many jokes in this movie really worth more horror than Ben Kingsley’s terrorist mastermind being revealed as a drug-addicted actor? Besides, even I have to admit it Love and thunder has a straightforward plot (albeit an uneven tone) at the time Iron man 3the plot is a convoluted mess.
Also, while this is obviously completely subjective, I can’t help but feel that Waititi’s big, creative swings in Thor: Love and Thunder led to more memorable moments than most modern ones Marvel movies. Like, the screaming goats are annoying, and the whole “Jane gets cancer” plot was hilarious, but almost every frame of this Asgard adventure was more memorable than anything I’ve seen in Black widow or Shang-Chi. And this Thor movie will most likely make you smile and be happy… just compare it to similar movies Quantum that leave you confused or Eternal that just put you to sleep.
Not perfect, but not bad

Again, none of this can be said Thor: Love and Thunder it’s a flawless movie…it’s really a tonal mess, and things like jane’s death and the tragic backstory of gore seem crazy next to the scenes where chris hemsworth takes off his clothes. But I can’t help but judge movies on their own merits (it’s literally my job!), and it turns out that a collection of tonally mixed but memorable scenes make for a memorable and (most importantly) enjoyable movie. The fact that I didn’t have to watch anything on Disney+ for “homework” before tuning in is just the icing on the cake for The Frozen Giant.
If you decide to visit Thor: Love and Thunderyou may find it a refreshing break from the never-ending series of holiday programs. Also, if you’re disillusioned with the modern Marvel beyond Deadpool and Wolverineit’s great to revisit a comic book classic that’s better than you remember. If we can accept a flawed but brilliant Tony Stark, then surely it’s time to accept what is about Thor’s most maligned cinematic outing.
