DePaul men’s basketball snaps 39-game Big East regular season losing streak with win over Georgetown

For the first time in 730 days DePaul beat Big East rival.

The Blue Devils’ 73-68 victory over Georgetown on Friday snapped a 39-game regular season streak. Big East losing streak.

Before beating Georgetown, DePaul’s last Big East win came on Jan. 18, 2023, over No. 8 Xavier.

DePaul’s win over Georgetown was not only a Big East win, but also their first road win since December 3, 2022.

Three players scored in double figures for DePaul, with guard CJ Gunn leading the way with 17 points on five-of-five shooting and adding five rebounds.

DePaul led 39-28 at halftime with Layden Blocker scoring all 14 of his first half points, including DePaul’s final six of the half.

Malik Mack and Drew Fielder led the scoring for Georgetown in the loss.

Mack had 19 points, 6 assists and two steals, and Fielder had 19 points with 8 rebounds and two blocks.

Caleb Williams had ten points with six rebounds and Curtis Williams Jr. had ten points in the loss for Georgetown.

The win snapped a five-game losing streak for DePaul.

DePaul’s Big Ten conference losing streak was tied for the fourth-longest losing streak in conference play during the AP poll era. ESPN research.

The longest losing streak in the conference is held by Colgate with a 47-game losing streak spanning 1984-1987.

With the win, DePaul improved to 10-9 (1-7 in Big East play) and will look to continue their winning ways when they win. Creighton is playing on Tuesdays at 9:00 p.m.

The Hoyas fall to 12-6 (3-4 in Big East play) with the loss and will look to turn things around when they arrive. host Villanova on Monday at 6:00 PM ET.
