Senate Democrats have launched a “calculated effort” to disrupt Public opinion about the Supreme CourtCBS News correspondent Jan Crawford argued Sunday.

After CBS’ Major Garrett brought up the court’s record low approval ratings on “Face the Nation” Sunday, Crawford suggested matters could begin before 2024.

“It really took off and started after the Dobbs decision, the court’s decision that overturned Roe v. Wade,” Crawford said. “The outrage was so overwhelming that you saw a fairly calculated effort by Democrats, Senate Democrats, to undermine the legitimacy of the Supreme Court. For example, the stories about the hearings, the scandals, at least some of them were greatly exaggerated. It affects public opinion.”

BIDEN’S ‘BLACK COGNITIVE DECLINE’ WAS THE MOST ‘MISREPRESENTED’ STORY OF 2024, CBS Reporter Says

He continued: “The public is starting to believe that this court is corrupt, that it’s their fault. None of that is true. It’s still a court – you can disagree with their decisions – a very conservative court. It’s not a court. A corrupt court. these are nine justices in this titanic battle over law, not politics, with very different views on how to interpret the Constitution.

Crawford cited the high profile case involving presidential immunity earlier this summer, here, in a 6-3 decision, the court ruled that former presidents like President-elect Donald Trump have substantial immunity from prosecution for official acts.

He criticized his Democratic opponents for “misrepresenting” the case when the decision actually shielded President Biden from prosecution.

“When you look at public opinion polls, of course the court has taken a hit, but that’s been the case over the years. The court often takes a hit. So do other institutions. Public opinion, according to the court, remains much higher than ours. Other institutions, including the White House, Congress and, until now, the news media,” Crawford said.
